The cooler months are rolling in, and with a new bub in the home, it’s important to stay on top of you and baby’s health. Heading swiftly into May, now is the perfect time to start organising your family’s flu shots. With an average time of about two weeks for the injection to kick into gear, getting in now before the winter fronts really hit is the ideal timing.
In light of World Immunisation Week, this April 24th-30th, we are announcing that this year Padbury Pharmacy will be offering flu vaccinations in store to anyone over 18. To keep updated with the latest information regarding booking and availability, keep your eyes peeled to our Facebook and Instagram pages where we will be announcing further details.
While it may seem daunting to some, protecting your child from the nastiness of illness that winter can bring is actually one of the best things you can do for them! Immunising yourself can reduce the likelihood of your family, precious bubs included, being affected by nasty strains of influenza, which can be distressful for an infant and their family to experience.
The influenza virus is easily spread through sneezing, coughing, or even talking. As the virus exists in infected particles, the simple act of touching a surface where the virus exists can make you or your family sick.
On top of your influenza immunisation, there are plenty of other ways you can maintain your health this winter. For Steve’s top tips on keeping a newborn healthy and warm this winter, check out our blog ‘Bub’s First Winter: Steve’s Tips & Tricks’
As an adult, maintaining adequate hygiene methods is especially important during the cooler months.
Always wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Use soap and lather it liberally, making sure to wash between fingers and under fingernails. Ensure you dry your hands thoroughly! Always carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes, for those sticky situations when you can’t quite get to the tap!
Always dispose of used tissues in a timely manner. Don’t leave tissues and hygiene items piled up for days, as running heaters indoors can help germs grow and spread even quicker!
Avoid using other people’s towels, make up, clothes or bed linens if they are or have recently been sick. While this may seem extreme, the virus can live on surfaces like these, so better to be safe than sorry!
Don’t underestimate the importance of taking extra vitamins and minerals! While we recommend this all year round, these immune supporting miracles can really be a God send during the winter flu months.
Lastly, stay hydrated. It’s amazing what a little H20 can do to help keep your body happy and healthy!
