Daffodil Day 2026: Growing Hope Through Prevention, Research and Community
Every year, Daffodil Day brings Australians together to support those affected by cancer and help fund life-saving research.
This year marks 40 years of Daffodil Day, celebrating four decades of growing hope for Australians impacted by cancer. Thanks to continued investment in research, prevention, and earlier detection, cancer survival rates have improved significantly. When Daffodil Day began in 1986, the five-year cancer survival rate was around 46%. Today, that figure has increased to 72%, giving hope to more Australians than ever before.
At Padbury Pharmacy, we're proud to support initiatives that encourage healthier communities through education, prevention and awareness.
Small Steps Can Make a Big Difference
While not all cancers can be prevented, there are several lifestyle choices that may help reduce your risk and support your long-term health.
Protect Your Skin
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Wearing SPF 50+ sunscreen, seeking shade, wearing protective clothing and avoiding prolonged UV exposure are simple habits that can make a lasting difference.
Stay Up to Date with Health Checks
Regular screenings and health checks play an important role in early detection. Speak with your GP about the screening programs recommended for your age and health history, and don't ignore changes in your body.
Eat Well and Stay Active
A balanced diet rich in fruit, vegetables and wholegrains, combined with regular physical activity, supports overall health and may help reduce the risk of several cancers.
Avoid Smoking
Quitting smoking remains one of the most effective ways to lower your risk of cancer and improve your overall health.
Limit Alcohol
Reducing alcohol consumption is another positive step towards lowering your cancer risk while supporting your long-term wellbeing.
How You Can Support Daffodil Day
Daffodil Day is about more than making a donation—it's about helping create a future where more Australians survive cancer.
