Top 5 Ways to Fit in More Family Time

At Padbury Pharmacy, we’re all about family. Anyone who has kept up with our socials has seen the adorable pictures of the Litas family, and knows that we are passionate about looking after your family too! With that in mind, we’ve taken the liberty of compiling a list of great things to do with those close to you that will keep everyone healthy and happy.

Exercise

While it’s a bit of an obvious one, exercising is the best way to keep fit and healthy, and doing so with your family helps to keep you motivated and makes it more enjoyable. This doesn’t have to mean an additional cost to the family budget, it can be as simple as taking your mum, dad, brother, sister, cousin or whoever on a brisk walk around the block. Maintaining family connections is great for your mental health, and doing so by exercising together also tackles physical health.

Cooking

Getting the kids interested in food preparation is a fundamental part of their development, and getting them in the kitchen from an early age is awesome for teaching them good eating habits. Easy afternoon snacks like fritters or zucchini muffins are a good place to start, and with practice and help, kids can tackle more difficult recipes over time. Embedding these good habits early in life puts the little ones in good stead for living longer and stronger.

Nights out

Social events with the family don’t have to be restricted to birthdays and other special occasions, just meeting a relative for a coffee is fantastic for maintaining relationships and catching up – another effective way of keeping up mental and emotional health.

Gardening

Although gardening has fallen by the wayside over the last few decades, it’s still a great way to get the family together around a common activity. Grandparents in particular love getting the grandkids in the garden pruning, weeding, picking fresh fruit and veg and looking after the plants. This quality time is invaluable, and can yield delicious things to cook with if your garden has a couple of fruit-bearing plants. Also, what better way to keep the young ones entertained by getting them out the house, in the fresh air, and off the couch!

Games

Much like gardening, technology and other interests have overtaken the classic family board game night. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t dust off your favourite game and get the whole clan around for a fun night. Stimulating interest in board games is awesome for kids’ fine motor skills and critical thinking ability, while the older members of the family are sure to enjoy the nostalgic trip down memory lane. What’s more, the extensive range of games available for purchase these days means there’s something for everyone, including licensed versions of classic board games, like “Star Wars” Monopoly, “Game of Thrones” Risk, and “Big Bang Theory” Clue.

Family activities are great for your physical, mental and emotional health, and shows how much you value your family. We know we love to spend time with ours here at Padbury Pharmacy, and we hope you find that this list of 5 ideas inspire you to get amongst the family life.
